The importance of self-compassion

Showing kindness toward ourselves is hard. It’s likely we have internalized messages that make us feel undeserving of self-love; to the point that it can feel shameful to direct gentleness inward.

In order to believe we are worthy of healing, it’s important that we turn our focus inward and reflect on why we feel badly about ourselves. An easy test to see if your internal dialogue is harmful is to ask yourself: would I say this sentiment to someone I care about? More often than not, we would never vocalize our negative self-talk and direct it toward a person who is dear to us because it’s just too mean.

You are the only person who will be with you 100% of the time. Why not put some effort into your relationship with yourself, the relationship that is guaranteed to last throughout our lifetime? With intentionality, we can change our thought patterns and automatic thinking to be more positive, supportive, and even loving.

It’s definitely challenging work! But please know that you are worthy of the positive outcomes. With time and effort, being kind to yourself will come easier to you and your overall wellness will reap the benefits of this healthy change.
